Ann Thompson

Ann was admitted to the hospital on July 1st where she died peacefully on July 6, 2026, with family by her side, after losing an 18-month battle with cancer. She will be dearly missed by her family and the many friends made over the years.

Ann was born in the Almonte Hospital on March 30, 1952, and raised by her parents, Wilfred (Sliver) and Mildred (Millie) Gambell, in the Appleton General Store. She was predeceased by both parents, and her older siblings: Dorothy New (Thorold); Bill (Emily) and son, Malcolm; Gail Hurdis (Stuart); and Gordon. She is survived by her sister-in-law, Dorothy Gambell, her younger sister, Bev Shoots (Jeff), and their daughter, Taylor Shoots (Luke Coady), as well as her own daughters, Camille Thompson (Bill Rheaume) and Megan Cochran (John), and grandson, Lucas Thompson. She is also survived by nephews, Paul (Peggy) New, and Ryan (Mylie) Gambell; and by nieces, Sandra Hurdis Collins, and Jenna (Terry) Gambell Constantini; and the many remaining cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Ann left high school early to pursue work at Digital Equipment of Canada Limited in Carleton Place, where she then met Stewart Thompson, whom she married on July 31, 1970. Ann and Stewart celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary last July. After their first daughter, Camille, was born in May 1971, Ann returned to work at Digital following her maternity leave but only worked about six months before deciding she wanted to be a full-time stay-at-home mother and homemaker. In addition to those roles, she took on a few baby-sitting jobs for family and friends and also helped her mother-in-law with running summer farm vacations for many years.

But where Ann’s personality really shone through was in the social aspects of sports, whether it was interacting with the guys Stewart played ball with, along with their wives and girlfriends who came out to support the teams, or the many people they bowled with in league play, or those they golfed with as members at Mountain Creek Golf Course for more than 25 years.

However, the real love of her life was dancing and music, and she made many friends among the ladies who took Zumba lessons, but even more so among the people they met at live music events/dances in the surrounding areas.

Ann will be greatly missed but never forgotten.

At the request of the family, Ann will be cremated, and there will be no visitation, wake, or funeral.
