Barbara Elliston Obituary

Barbara Ann (Nee Moran)
22 June 1941 – 20 February 2024

After a final visit by family members in the afternoon, Barbara passed peacefully in the ICU at Queensway-Carleton Hospital with her husband of 52 years by her side.

Barbara Ann Moran was born at home on the family farm in Murray Township, about five miles North of Trenton, Ontario. Barbara and her nine siblings attended elementary school at SS 20 in Murray Township and secondary school at Brighton High School. After graduating high school Barbara attended the Toronto Business College and lived and worked in Toronto for a number of years. She then moved back to Trenton where in 1970 she met Ray Elliston, a serving Army Officer. They were married in 1971 after which they and their three children, Debbie, John and Michael lived in a number of locations across Canada and in West Germany. On retirement Ray and Barbara settled in Lanark County where they have resided for 29 years, the last 23 in the village of Appleton where Barb satisfied her twin passions of flower gardening and quilting. Barbara was pre-deceased by her parents Charles and Ethel Moran, her brother Brian, her sister Jean Sine and her son John. She is survived by her husband Ray of Appleton, daughter Debbie Mallon (Tim) of Chesterville, son Michael (Laly) of Stittsville, her grand-daughters Kayla, Becky, and Melissa (Mat Guay) and Melissa and Mat’s children, great-grandson Declan and great-granddaughter Ellie.

Barbara is universally loved and will be greatly missed by her immediate family, her extended family, and her many friends in Lanark County and across Canada.

Family and friends may visit at the Alan R. Barker Funeral Home, 19 McArthur Avenue, Carleton Place on Tuesday, February 27, 2024 from 10:30 a.m. until time of service in the chapel at 12:30 p.m. Interment will be held in the spring at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery, Carleton Place.
