Sergeant (Retired) Brian "Jake" Gallipeau, CD

March 26, 1944 - January 23, 2025

It is with sadness that we announce that Jake passed away peacefully in the CPDMH on the 23rd of January 2025, with his loving wife Margaret “Peggy” holding his hand. Jake was a devoted and loving husband and father.

Jake was born in England and came to Canada, Carleton Place in October 1946.

He is survived by his loving wife Peggy (married in 1967), his brother Gary Gower (PEI) (Sheila deceased), sisters Linda Johnston (Carl deceased) and Diane Lamb (Keith), his brother-in-law Joe Jackson (Mary Lou), sister-in-law Christine Jackson and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

He is predeceased by his parents Desmond and Janet Gallipeau, his daughter Jeanette and son-in-law Kevin Boldt and niece Janet Gower.

Jake joined the Military in 1963, initially with 1st Battalion Black Watch stationed in Gagetown, New Brunswick. When the Black Watch disbanded in 1970, he rebadged to 3RCR and was posted to CFB Petawawa. In 1974, he rebadged to Military Intelligence and was posted to Baden-Soellingen, Germany.  In 1982 he was posted to NDHQ Ottawa, and in 1984 he was posted to Tunney’s Pasture. He did 2 tours of Peacekeeping: Cyprus 1967 and Egypt 1973. Jake was very involved volunteering in Carleton Place. He co-chaired Mississippi River Days, sat on the Lanark County Housing Authority, was involved with the 100 Club, the Heart and Stroke Foundation, the Canadian Cancer Society, the Canadian Diabetes Association, the Lanark County Food Bank, the Legion Branch 192 and Christmas Baskets. He was on the CP Curling Club Building Committee and the CP Police Board. He was responsible for the beautification and maintenance of Bridge Street while with the BIA. He was a Mason, member of St. John’s Lodge, Mississippi Lodge, a Shriner and Tunis Shrine, Jake was Carleton Place Citizen of the year in 1994..

For nearly 40 years, he truly enjoyed being Santa, and visiting with the kiddies at Christmas time.

Cremation has taken place. A graveside service will be held on Saturday, 7th of June at St. James Anglican Church Cemetery, Carleton Place at 1:30p.m. A Legion service and a Celebration of Life will follow at the Carleton Place Legion 192, 177 George Street, Carleton Place, ON.
