Charles Elgin Green
Charles Elgin Green passed away peacefully on Tuesday, November 25, 2025, in his 85th year, at the Queensway Carleton Hospital in Ottawa, surrounded by his loving family.
Elgin is survived by his wife of almost 60 years, Janet (nee Matthews). He was a cherished father to Laura (Toby) and Karen (Antoine), and a proud Grampa to Lucas, Devin, and Finnley. He was predeceased by his seven older siblings and will be fondly remembered by his extended family members both near and far.
Elgin dedicated his professional life to education, serving as a respected elementary school principal for the Carleton Board of Education. He was an early advocate for students with special needs, and later worked to develop the Board's implementation of Bill 82, which mandated special education programs and services in Ontario schools.
Elgin was happiest when spending time with his family and friends at the cottage on Sharbot Lake. There, he kept busy with many building projects, sailing, painting watercolours, bird watching, and losing himself in a good book.
Elgin faced his long battle with heart disease and short fight with cancer with characteristic strength and grace. His kind heart, gentle spirit, and sense of humour will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
The interment will take place in Markdale in the spring. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Ottawa Heart Institute would be gratefully received.
