Dan Munro
04 August, 1957—31 October 2025
With great sadness, our family must announce the sudden death of our dearly loved Dan Munro. Dan passed away peacefully at his home in Ottawa, Friday 31 October, 2025. Dan will always be in our hearts as we strive to carry on without him. His happy weekly calls, always caring and cheerful have meant so much. Kind, and always understanding, Dan gave love abundantly to his family and friends. He was keenly interested in politics and world affairs and welcomed debating the latest events. Dan's love of comedy was his antidote for life. His dream was to have a cabin by a stream and fish every day, and it is our deepest wish that he is there now.
Dan spent many summers working at fruit farming in the Okanagan, B.C. where he enjoyed the people and the countryside. He travelled around B.C. before settling in Vancouver and working construction, eventually joining his mother and stepfather in Calgary, Alberta where he worked in light industry and fished the Bow river. Not a keen cowboy, he returned to Ottawa, near to his father and brother. He enjoyed cooking and experimenting with spices, a self-proclaimed pepperhead. Dan was a true home-buddy, always content, and happy to see family. His last trip to Canmore, Alberta in 2023 to visit his mother and stepfather was a great time for all.
Dan was predeceased by his Father, Keith Munro (Dorothy), Grandparents, Russell and Pearl Munro, and Mark and Lottie Rubino, as well as his nephew Matt Munro.
Dan will forever be remembered and deeply missed by his mother Ann Rubino-Cook (Les Cook), brother David Munro (Margaret Hurdis), nephew Mark Munro, niece, Darcy Munro. Dan's son Robert Colley joins us in grieving this loss, as do his friends of many years, Dwayne and Thera Holmes.
A graveside service will be held on Thursday, November 6th 2025 at 1 p.m. at Hopetown Cemetery in Hopetown.
Oh, Danny Boy, the pipes, the pipes are calling
From glen to glen, and down the mountain side
The summer's gone and all the roses falling
It's you, it's you must go and we must bide
But come ye back when summer's in the meadow
Or when the valley's hushed and white with snow
And I'll be here in sunshine or in shadow
Oh Danny Boy, oh, Danny Boy, we love you so
