David Smith Obituary

David (PJ) Smith

August 24, 1974 - January 23, 2025

It with great sorrow that we must announce the passing of our youngest Brother, David (PJ) Smith after a short sudden battle with cancer at the young age of 50.

David was adopted at birth at Iqualit, Nunavut and had two loving families that will miss him dearly. David, the youngest of 6 children, and his parents left the north in 1980 and moved back to Carleton Place where he attended Caldwell Public School, then moved to Smiths Falls where he finished high school, completing his college education in Polce Science in Peterborough. David worked at Transport Canada and thoroughly enjoyed his work and his coworkers. David was an air cadet in Smiths Falls for many years, where he obtained his pilot licence and enjoyed taking family and friends for a flight.  David was a fanatical Star Wars fan and collector of memorabilia and loved watching hockey, especially the Ottawa 67’s and the Canada’s junior teams. While David never married and did not have his own children, he was a fantastic Uncle who loved and was loved by his many nieces and nephews.

Throughout David’s short life, he fought many battles, both mental and physical, with the strength that few could muster, and is an inspiration to others who face similar battles.

David will be missed by his large family and friends that include his parents, Doug (deceased), and Beverley, and his siblings, Mark, Scott (Christine), Brian (Anne-Marie), Darlena, Laurie (Guy), and his numerous nieces and nephews as well as his birth parents, Chico (deceased), and Seemeega Eegeesiak, and his birth siblings, Okalik, Joamie, Nikki (deceased), Harry (Baie), Alookie, Maggie, Etuk (Evie), Qaap (Danny) and Jouan, who Dave  always keep in contact with and enjoyed his trips to Iqaluit and reuniting with his birth family and his heritage.

A celebration of life will be held at David’s niece’s home at 154 Antrim Street Carleton Place on Sat February 1, 2025 from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m.
