Donald "Donnie" Stanley Obituary

Donald Milton Stanley

Donnie passed away peacefully at his home on Monday November 3, 2025, with his family by his side, in his 92nd year.

Donnie is predeceased by the love of his life, Marlene, his wife of 66 years. Dear father of Karen More (Steve), Kevin (Cheryl) and Kim Fitzgerald (Doug McCoy). Cherished Pappy of Laura Hewitt (Brad), Katelyn Purdy (Adam), Allison Corcoran (Robert) and Connor and Brandon Fitzgerald. Very proud Pappy to his great-grandchildren Mason and Gage Hewitt, Hudson, McKinley and Sawyer Purdy and Tenley, Taven and Tayden Corcoran. Predeceased by his parents Graham & Jean Stanley (Taylor) and his siblings Allan, Doris Webster, Linda Lee Stacey, Lesley and by his mother and father-in-law, Stan and Eve Parsons.

Born and raised in Carleton Place, Don lived most of his life in town and on Mississippi Lake. Don was a very well-known member of the community and loved to call Carleton Place his home. He served his community in many ways over many years, coaching minor hockey, volunteering with The Diamond Foundation, Mississippi River Jam, The Christmas Basket Program and as a member of the Carleton Place Curling Club, The 100 Club, Carlbeck Snowmobile Club, Ocean Wave Fire Department, The Royal Canadian Legion, St. John’s Masonic Lodge and Tunis Temple Shiners. He enjoyed his many hours spent each year selling Shriner calendars, Vidalia onions and working with the “Pop Can Crew”

Donnie loved a good party, music, dancing, playing cards and travelling to his favorite places, especially Gravenhurst and Barbados. He and Marlene were a pleasure to watch on the dance floor. They knew how to enjoy life. He was a meticulous carpenter and craftsman. He could build anything from a house to a finely finished piece of furniture. One thing is for sure, if he was going to do something it would be done right! Always ready to lend a helping hand, Donnie will be missed and fondly remembered.

The family would like to thank Don’s PSW’s Kathryn and Mike, whose continued caring and support allowed Don to spend his final years at home. Also thank you to Dr. Laura Santos.

Friends may support the family at the Alan R. Barker Funeral Home, 19 McArthur Avenue, Carleton Place, on Sunday, November 9 from 1 to 4 pm.  Funeral service will be in the chapel on Monday, November 10 at 11:00 a.m. An interment will be at United Cemeteries, followed by a reception the Legion Branch 192 Capt.  A.
