Doreen Mary Spinney

Doreen Mary Spinney (née Dunn) passed away peacefully on November 15, 2025, at the age of 79, surrounded by her family.

Beloved daughter of the late John Dunn and Claire Dunn, and cherished wife of the late Howard Kurt Spinney, Doreen leaves behind her devoted daughters Kristine Robertson (James) and Elaine Spinney.

She was a proud grandmother to Andrew Joy (Chelsea), Bailey Joy (Alexis), Kallie Lowe, and Mitchel Lowe, and a loving great-grandmother to Owen Joy, Kayden Joy, and Ryatt Joy.

Doreen began her career with CIBC in Parry Sound, where she also began raising her family. She formed many close and lasting friendships both in Parry Sound and later in Ottawa. Doreen will be fondly remembered by all who knew her; she had a remarkable gift for lighting up any room she entered.

She embraced many hobbies—entertaining, knitting, and decorating among them—and she especially loved costumes and parties. Doreen delighted in sharing her beloved witch collection with anyone interested in a tour.

She will be deeply missed.

The family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to Waterside Community Retirement for their exceptional care and compassion, and special thanks to her Waterside friends who offered meals, companionship, and kindness.

A celebration of Doreen’s life will be held on Tuesday, November 25th at 11:00 a.m.with a funeral Mass celebrated at St. Mary’s Church (28 Hawthorne Avenue, Carleton Place), followed by a reception in the church hall. Those wishing to join the family afterwards at Notre-Dame Cemetery, 455 Montreal Road, Ottawa, are warmly welcome.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Mary’s Parish Carleton Place in Doreen’s memory.
