Dorothy Moreau

(nee Monaghan)

Peacefully at Carleton Place & District Memorial Hospital on Saturday, May 2, 2026, at the age of 96. Loving mother of Diann (Larry), Lynn (Rick), and Carey. Caring grandmother of Jennifer (Caleb), Stephanie (Chris), Kristy (Ben), Cole (Katie), Kelsey (Sean), and Nathan. Proud great-grandmother of Violet, Orin, Jacob, Lucas, Grace, Holly, Luke, Everett, and Thoren. Preceded in death by husband Moe, son Brian, and daughter-in-law Janice. Survived by siblings Alaine, Gary (Lynne), Everett (Patsy), and Colleen. Also predeceased by her parents Mary (nee Muldoon) and Joseph Monaghan and siblings Edward, Keith, Mickey, Donald, and Muriel. She will be missed dearly by family, friends, and neighbors in Bells Corners and Carleton Place.

Dorothy grew up in Fallowfield in the beautiful farmhouse on the corner of Richmond Road. She had nine siblings and grew up helping on their family farm. When she met the love of her life, Moe, and they started their family, they moved to Bells Corners where she lived for 63 years. She loved sewing, gardening and attending mass at St. Patrick’s Church in Fallowfield.

The family would like to thank the staff at Maple Ridge Retirement Community and Carleton Place & District Memorial Hospital for their care in Dorothy’s final days.

A Mass in Memory of Dorothy will be held Wednesday, May 13, 2026 in St. Patrick's Church, Fallowfield at 11 a.m. Friends are welcome to arrive at 10 am to greet the family beforehand. A luncheon in the Parish hall will follow. In memoriam donations to the Carleton Place & District Hospital Foundation are appreciated.

The following poem was written for Dorothy and Moe’s 50th wedding anniversary by their son-in-law Rick:

Affairs of the Heart

In a world where relationships seldom last.

Our 50th Anniversary has come to pass.

It’s a day to enjoy all that’s been.

For as we well know, it’s one.

We may never have seen.

At times like this there’s no regret.

As we celebrate an occasion. We’ll never forget.

If milestones are the true test of time.

This one will always be yours and mine.

For our union is tried, but true.

Of which there are so very few.

As are all affairs of the heart.

We shall never, ever part.
