Douglas McMillan Obituary

Douglas Allan McMillan

1947- 2025

Peacefully at Fairview Manor in Almonte, Ontario, Doug passed away on Saturday, October 11, 2025, at the age of 78. He is survived by his daughter, Trina Christine, son-in-law Douglas Wayne and grandson, Sawyer Millan Conboy. He was the son of the late Elmer Gordon and Joan Kathleen (nee Botting) McMillan. Brother of Jennifer (the late Jacques), the late Robert, the late Donald (Carol), Elizabeth (Bill), the late Elmer Jr., Rodney (Dawn) and Norma (Rheal). He will be missed by his many nieces, nephews and close friends.

Doug was a natural born athlete.  It didn’t matter which sport, he excelled.  Hockey and football were favorites in his youth, then softball, bowling and later golf.  As an avid outdoorsman, he loved to hunt, fish, camp, hike and just be outside doing anything and everything. Some of his daughter’s most cherished memories growing up involve an old rusty Jeep and a fishing rod.

Doug spent most of his career at Digital Equipment Canada, first in Carleton Place and then in Kanata. He was always proud of his many achievements at Digital – from specialized training in the exciting new world of high tech to health & safety before it was an everyday part of the job.  He made many lifelong friends at DEC, and he cherished those friendships long into retirement.

Doug’s legacy is his kindness. Everyone who met him knew he was a gentle soul. He made everyone feel welcome and appreciated.

Trina would like to extend a thank you to our dear friends, Donna & Ted Zeman, family members and the wonderful staff at Fairview Manor, for always ensuring dad was loved and well taken care of.

Family and friends are invited to Barker Funeral Home, 19 McArthur Ave., Carleton Place, ON, for a gathering in Doug’s memory, a time to share stories and visit with friends, from 1:00 – 3:00 PM on Saturday, October 18th.

Interment at St. Luke’s Anglican Cemetery in Eardley, QC., at a later date.

For those who wish to do so, his family would greatly appreciate donations to the Alzheimer Society Lanark Leeds Grenville or the Fairview Manor Foundation.
