Obituary

Engel (“Ed”) Ripmeester

Engel (“Ed”) Ripmeester, loving husband, father, and devoted grandfather passed away suddenly June 19th, 2023.  Ed is remembered by his wife, Patricia, his two sons, William (Deborah) and David (Kelly) and his nine grandchildren, Jacob (Lan), Andrew, Matthew (Emilie), Nathan, Owen, Thomas, Sarah, Emma, and Heather.

Ed immigrated to Canada from the Netherlands when he was six years old and spent his career working for the Department of National Defence.  A man of staunch integrity and courage, he was a hard worker and remained a life-long enthusiast of the latest developments in digital technology. In retirement, Ed joined the Canadian Ski Patrol for many years, delved into his family genealogy and generously shared his time volunteering or helping friends and family.

Ed’s absolute pride and joy were his two sons and nine grandchildren.  He could always be counted on to share his time and knowledge with every single one of them at any age or stage.  Ed would drop whatever he was doing to be there for his family during both the big moments and all of the small moments.  He shared his passions with them - teaching them to ski, to ride a bike, to work with their hands, and to share a hearty laugh – often over a bad pun.  He was the kind of role model that every child and father should have.

Ed and his wife Pat had a marriage that inspired everyone around them.  They loved to travel the world together and never stopped going on adventures.  They were the best of friends and each other’s biggest cheerleaders.

Ed leaves a huge hole in the hearts of everyone that he has connected with. His legacy will live on in the lives of his adoring family. We all love you and miss you so much already.

A celebration of Ed’s life will be held Monday, July 10, 2023 at 1 pm, at the Alan R. Barker Funeral Home, 19 McArthur Avenue, Carleton Place, ON.

In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Canadian Cancer Society or your local food bank.
