Evelyn Lucille Stelzig (née Leggett)
December 16, 1939 – September 28, 2025
It is with profound sadness we announce the peaceful passing of Evelyn Lucille Stelzig (Leggett) on September 28, 2025, at the age of 85.
Evelyn was the cherished wife of Arthur Stelzig for 60 devoted years. A loving and dedicated mother to Patti (late Lee) and Jim (Marie-Josée), she was also a proud and adoring grandmother to Andrew, Connor, Alex, and Nadia. Evelyn was a beloved sister to John (late Irene) and Carl (late Mary-Anne), and a dear sister-in-law to Gary Vliet (Donna) and the late Les Vliet. Evelyn's warmth and presence will also be deeply missed by her many nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.
She was predeceased by her parents, Charles and Clara Leggett, and her parents-in-law, Clark and Suzanne Vliet.
Evelyn lived a life grounded in love, creativity, and quiet strength. She found joy in life’s simple pleasures — quilting, crafting, and expressing her artistic spirit through handmade creations that brought warmth to so many. She especially cherished time spent at the family cottage and the farm, where she was most at peace and happiest surrounded by nature and loved ones.
Evelyn faced a long and courageous battle with Alzheimer’s disease, a journey that spanned nearly two decades. For the past 12 years, she was lovingly cared for by the dedicated staff at Garden Terrace, to whom the family extends their heartfelt gratitude.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks you to consider sharing a story or memory of Evelyn, or making a donation in her honour to either the Alzheimer Society of Canada or the Canadian Cancer Society.
Evelyn’s legacy of kindness, creativity, resilience, and deep love for her family and friends will forever remain in our hearts.
A private family service will be held, followed by inurnment at Crosby Cemetery.
