It is with great sadness that we write a final chapter for Frank Melvin Hirst. Frank was born on June 9, 1939 in Huddersfield, England. He emigrated to Canada on the ocean liner Aquitania and settled in Almonte Ontario. Frank is predeceased by his parents James Hirst and Marjorie Thornton (Hirst) and his brother Geoff Hirst (Peggy). Dearly loved by his youngest brother Ken Hirst (Karen).
Given to a life of adventure, Frank earned his master degree in Geography at Queens University. Frank became a teacher and travelled north to Dawson City, Yukon Territory. Frank met and married Jean Kindt in Dawson City, Yukon in 1964. He travelled back to Ontario and spent many happy years teaching at South Carleton High School in Richmond while building his beloved farm Shintangle. Poppa Frank is survived by his wife Jean and their two children, Laurie Hirst Mousseau (Scott) and Chris Hirst (Carrie). Poppa is very loved by his grandchildren Ryan, Kate and Josh, his niece Debbie and nephews Andrew (Lynn), Matt (Janette) and Dustin (Michelle). Life takes many paths and Frank was loved by his late second wife Dana Jones and her daughter Amanda (James). Frank will be fondly remembered by family, friends and former students by his huge laugh and generous kindness.
