Haddon W. Smith
Sergeant (Retired)
It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Haddon William Smith at the age of 77. Haddon is survived by his loving partner and best friend of 15 years Rhonda Brunke, his sons Kenyon (Donna) and Trevor (Aileen) and his grandchildren Hannah (Cameron), Kya, Travis, and step grandchildren Emily and Colin. He is predeceased by his parents Russell and Gwen Smith and will be deeply missed by his siblings Ron (Diane), Gail (Lloyd Mayhew) and Warren (Judy).
He held a special place in his heart for his step-daughter Victoria and her son Dekker.
Haddon was proud of his 37 years of service starting with the Nepean Police Force and retiring with the Ottawa Police Force in 2006. Haddon loved his work as an officer, remaining on the front lines, by choice, his entire career. He was greatly respected and admired by his fellow officers and colleagues. He was fearless and steadfast in his duties, always remaining calm when assisting his fellow officers or the public.
In his personal life, he was incredibly strong-willed, genuine, kind, loyal, loving and protective of his friends and family. Always available with knowledge and/or help when asked for, or not. Haddon was especially proud to be G-Pa to his grandchildren sending them random texts when the spirit moved him.
He had a great sense of humour and loved to laugh and joke around. He had an encyclopedic knowledge on a wide range of topics including but not limited to nature and anything mechanical. Always willing to tackle an engine, even if he hadn’t encountered it before. No engine would best Haddon!
Haddon’s happy place was at the cottage, where he and Rhonda shared a mutual love of nature. He always enjoyed sharing the cottage with friends and family.
Maizie, his little dog, will miss her Daddy forever.
Our world will not be the same without him.
Friends and family are invited to pay their respects at the Alan R. Barker Funeral Home (19 McArthur Ave, Carleton Place) on Friday June 20, 2025 from 1:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m.
