Heather Ruth Fields
Heather Ruth Fields passed quietly in her sleep on Friday, February 27th, 2026, in Carleton Place, Ontario, at 63 years old, next to the love of her life.
Born in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, Heather moved through the world with unmistakable presence. She was the beloved life partner of David Seddon, a devoted mother to Greer Mullin and Brendan Potter, whom she supported and loved in her own steadfast way. She was also a proud and adoring Nana. Becoming a grandmother brought her deep joy, and she treasured every moment she spent in that role.
Heather was driven by a deep desire to engage with the world around her. She thought, questioned, created, and felt intensely. Determined and strong-willed, she continued reaching for the life she wanted, even when it asked courage of her.
She was, at heart, a creative soul. Heather loved music and set her sights on becoming a jazz piano player — determined and undeterred at the keys. She knit and sewed for her children, stitched gifts with care for friends and loved ones, and found deep satisfaction in growing flowers, plants, and vegetables for her family. She noticed every bird outside her window and loved being outdoors, hands in the earth, attentive to the quiet, ordinary miracles of growing things.
Heather faced multiple sclerosis with resilience, never allowing it to define the scale of her spirit. What she wanted, more than anything, was to participate in life as fully as her heart and body would allow.
Heather is survived by her daughter, Greer Mullin; her son, Brendan Potter; her granddaughter, Quinn Mullin; and her brothers, Roger Berry and Thomas Fields. She was predeceased by her mother, Helen Berry, her father, George Berry, her brother Timothy Fields, and her sisters Sandra Fields and Brenda Shepherd.
The rooms she entered feel quieter now, but the life she insisted on living continues in the people and the things she shaped.
