Helmut Lukas
November 10, 1932 – February 21, 2024
It is with broken hearts that the family of Helmut Lukas announce his passing at his home on February 21, 2024 at the age of 91. Helmut is survived by his wife of 68 years, Marilyn. He was a devoted and loving father to his daughters, Melodie (Paul), Melinda (Graeme) and Michelle (Don), cherished Poppi to his grandchildren Joshua (Kathleen), Brody (Serena), Ben (Erica), Nicholas (Maddy), Brianna (Mike) and Ethan and great grandchildren Quinn, Peyton and Charlie.
Helmut immigrated from Germany to Canada in 1952 settling in Carleton Place. He spent most of his career at Bell Northern Research where he had numerous patents from his work in fibre optics. He also created the first mechanical prosthetic hand in 1971. Helmut’s pastimes included working in his workshop and dancing. He was always available to help out family and friends. His hugs will be greatly missed by his family.
In keeping with Helmut’s wishes, cremation has taken place and a Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. For those who wish, a donation can be made to the Carleton Place Memorial Hospital Foundation or charity of your choice.
