Ian Grant Edwards
1962-2025
Former owner Carleton Auto Parts, Almonte, Arnprior and Carleton Place
In hospital, Carleton Place on Wednesday, June 4, 2025. Ian, dubbed “Shaky” by his golf buddies, grew up on the Mississippi Golf Course where the game of golf became his first love. He met his second love, Janet in the summer of ‘82 and married in 1986, ten years later he took on a new title “Dad” upon the birth of his daughter Emma.
Survived by wife Janet Elizabeth (nee Tuffin), daughter Emma Lauren, brother Jeff Edwards and beloved pup Zoe. Predeceased by father Carl Glen and mother Elizabeth Gweneth (nee Black) and family feline Cuddles.
In addition to his family, Ian’s legacy lives on with his work on the Ottawa Valley Rail Trail, the Baird Trail and the Carleton Place pedestrian bridge and lookout. Ian believes that communities flourish when everyone spends time giving back to those around them and he led by example taking on numerous leadership roles to build our community such as: Member of Lanark County Trails committee, CPDMH Hospital Foundation President, President Mississippi Golf Club, President Upper Canada Snowmobile Region, Governor Ontario Federation of Snowmobile Clubs, Beautiful Eastern Association of Snowmobile Trails President and as Treasurer for Lanark County Crimestoppers.
Ian was deeply honoured in 2009 after being awarded as Carleton Place’s “Business Person of the Year”, during his acceptance he credited his success to his employees and the loyal customers who supported him, sharing the success as a team.
In Ian’s younger years he became a volleyball referee to help pay his way through university, he continued on this path, attaining National Referee status. The highlight of his time spent with this organization was being a linesman for a few international matches and in particular one between Canada and Cuba at Ottawa University. His love of volleyball led to assisting Nancy Mills with coaching the CPHS men’s volleyball team which led to few “All Ontario” match ups.
A pie enthusiast, nothing could brighten Ian’s day like a freshly baked raspberry pie, but really…any pie would suffice.
An avid snowmobiler, Ian’s winters were filled leading trips across Canada’s northern and eastern terrains and summers at the golf course. In his downtime he spent hours cleaning up and maintaining the trails for all to enjoy.
Wise beyond his years, Ian lived a life fully guided by a strong set of values - kindness, diligence, honesty and humility.
The Edwards’ family gives heartfelt thanks to Ian’s care team, Dr. Sinclair, Dr. Ng, Dr. Nair and the nursing staff at The Ottawa Hospital and in particular to Sandeep Kaushik, his Occupational Therapist, Dr. Fullerton and the outstanding nurses at the Carleton Place and District Memorial Hospital.
Family and friends may visit at the Barker Funeral Home. 19, McArthur Avenue, Carleton Place on Tuesday, June 10th and Wednesday June 11th from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. A Celebration of Ian’s life will be held at a later date.
