Janet Donna Harris
July 3, 1950 – June 5, 2026
Janet Harris of Carleton Place, at the age of 75, passed away peacefully with family at her side at the Carleton Place & District Memorial Hospital on Friday June 5th after a brief illness.
Janet joined the federal public service very young in her professional career, where she dedicated over 40 years in various civilian roles with the Canadian Department of National Defence retiring in 2015. Janet’s true passion was her volunteer work with the Ladies Orange Benevolent Association, joining in 1989 with dear friend Debbie Bradley. Janet held the position of Secretary of the Orange Lodge Munster Chapter, later to be promoted to Grand Secretary of the Grand Lodge of Eastern Ontario. In addition to her formal roles within the Lodge, she also used her talents and creativity to plan events such as the July 12th celebrations. Janet was fiercely dedicated to her charity work.
Janet is predeceased by her husband, Preston Harris, her parents, Jack and Jill (Maisie) Boyes, and her brother Steve Boyes.
She leaves behind her loving children, Jason (Trish) Williams, Heather Harris, Jamie Harris (Ashley Jones), her stepchildren Nancy Harris (Denis Richer) and Wayne (Hilary) Harris and her 13 grandchildren.
Our family are deeply grateful to the dedicated nurses, physicians and healthcare staff at Carleton Place & District Memorial Hospital whose kindness, professionalism and compassion brought comfort to both Janet and our family.
As per Janet’s wishes, there will be no visitation; a private family funeral will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Carleton Place & District Memorial Hospital Foundation in her memory.
