In Loving Memory of Joel Kennedy
Beloved Father, Son, Brother, Nephew, Uncle, and Friend
August 12, 1984 – October 19, 2025
It is with broken hearts that we announce the sudden passing of Joel Kennedy. Joel left us far too soon, and words can hardly express the loss we feel. We find comfort in remembering the laughter, stories, and countless memories that he brought to the lives of everyone who knew him.
Joel grew up in Ottawa, where his larger-than-life spirit quickly became known to anyone who crossed his path. Whether he was sharing a story - usually with the kind of animated flair only Joel could pull off - or going out of his way to help a friend, he had a heart as big as his personality. He was a loving father, a loyal friend, and the kind of person who could turn even the simplest moment into something unforgettable.
Joel was deeply proud of his Irish heritage, and it showed in his warmth, humour, and unwavering sense of loyalty to those he loved. His bright personality matched perfectly with his love of the colour orange, a fitting reflection of the vibrance he brought into every room he entered.
A true fan at heart, Joel’s passions ran deep. He loved the Detroit Red Wings, had a soft spot for the Edmonton Oilers (especially Wayne Gretzky), and never lost his childhood excitement for old-school Nintendo, KISS, and WWE, with Hulk Hogan always holding a special place in his heart. His sense of nostalgia was unmatched; he found joy in revisiting the music, games, and moments that shaped his life.
Above all, Joel was a proud and loving father to Tyson (“T-Dizzle”) and Jaymie (“Doodle”), who were his greatest joy and proudest accomplishments. He is also survived by his loving family, Donna, Gus, Leslie Anne, and Jennyne, along with many aunts, uncles, cousins, and countless friends who will carry his memory forward with love.
A Celebration of Joel’s Life will be held on Saturday, November 22, 2025, from 1:00 pm. - 5:00 p.m. at Barker Funeral Home, 19 McArthur Avenue, Carleton Place, ON. In true Joel fashion, this will be an opportunity to gather, share stories, and celebrate the incredible person he was. Anyone who wishes to share a memory is warmly welcome to do so.
For those who wish, in lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to the Canadian Mental Health Association of Ontario or CHEO in Joel’s memory.
Sláinte, Joel - until we share another laugh on the other side.
