John McFarlane Obituary

John Donald McFarlane

1936-2025

Sadly, John passed away peacefully March 6, 2025 at the Ottawa General Hospital after a brief illness, with Donna at his side.

He is survived by his wife Donna (McCauley), his son Rob (Liz Matheson), his daughter Ruthann Dumouchel (Alain) and his grandchildren and step-grandchildren Ryan McFarlane, Jessica Pollock, William Matheson, Yan Dumouchel, Alyssa Pollock and Brianna Matheson.  Along with his brother Edwin, sisters Shirley Young (late Don) and Ellen Jamieson (late Joe) and former sister in-law-Barbara McFarlane and is predeceased by his parents Lorne and Agnes (Cameron) McFarlane and his brother Peter.

John and Donna married in 1964 and raised their two children in Beckwith Township.  The community where his great-great-grandparents settled in the 1820's.

John left the family farm in 1965 and worked briefly at Kenwood Mills in Arnprior and Leigh Instruments before returning to Beckwith to work for the Public Works Road Department for 31 years.

He was an original member of the Beckwith Volunteer Fire Department which was founded in 1964, retiring as Deputy Chief.  His wish for his final ride to be on unit 54 will be fulfilled.

Although we have lived in Carleton Place for many years his heart remained in Beckwith and his final resting place will be in the United Cemeteries, Beckwith Township.  Interment will take place on June 1, 2025 at 1:00 p.m. at the United Cemeteries (2677 Cemetery Side Rd). A reception will be held following the interment at the Beckwith Township Hall (2022 Beckwith Park Lane, just off of 9th Line) which will open at 1:00 p.m. for those unable to attend at the graveside.

Donations can be made to a charity of choice.
