John Dennis Chafer
John Dennis Chafer born April 7, 1940 passed away peacefully, surrounded by loved ones, on December 16, 2025.
He is lovingly remembered by his devoted wife, Diane; his daughter, Nicole Patriquin (Shane); and his sons, Ted St. Germain, Brad Chafer (Julie), and Mike Chafer (Bev). He will also be deeply missed by his cherished nephew, Kevin Magee; his 11 grandchildren; and his 15 great-grandchildren. Dennis was predeceased by his sister, Jan Luff, and brothers-in-law Norm Luff, Gary Magee. He is survived by his sister, Cathy Magee, and five beautiful nieces. He is fondly remembered by his brothers and sisters-in-law: Jeannette Brosseau; Ellie Lamothe (predeceased); Jackie Lacombe (John, predeceased); Alice Blais (Maurice); Ron Bedard; and Leon Bedard (Jeannine) and many nieces and nephews. He also leaves behind special friends Dave (brother) and Colleen Wood.
Dennis worked as a Senior Land Consultant with Ontario Hydro for over 25 years, retiring in 1993.
He had a lifelong passion for hunting and fishing and greatly enjoyed traveling throughout Canada and the United States in his RV with his beloved Diane, his partner in life and travel. One of his greatest joys was spending time at Pitts Landing in Madoc, Ontario—his “happy place”—where he loved fishing with his good friend Bob West (predeceased), relaxing on his deck, and taking in the beauty of nature. Dennis also had a green thumb and took great pride in his garden.
An avid sports fan, Dennis always had a game playing on the television. He enthusiastically cheered for his favorite teams, the Toronto Blue Jays, Toronto Maple Leafs and the Tampa Bay Lightning, and was a fountain of knowledge on all things sports. He also loved hosting cocktail hour and spending time with friends, both old and new.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Lobo and to the doctors and nurses at Carleton Place Hospital for the compassionate and exceptional care Dennis received.
A celebration of life will be held this summer at the lake in Madoc. The date will be announced at a later time.
In lieu of flowers the family asks that you make a charitable donation to an organization that touches your heart in honour of Dennis.
“He lived fully, loved deeply and left this world a better place than he found it”
