Joseph Kolar Obituary

Joseph Viktor Kolar

 23 January 1930 – 31 October 2025

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Joe Kolar at the age of 95 at the Carleton Place Terrace.

Lovingly remembered by his children, Susan, Joanne, Pam and Dan and step-children Greg (Beth), Sandra (Jeff) and Richard (Michele) .Dearly missed by his fifteen grandchildren and their spouses. He will have a special place as Grandpa Great in the hearts of his nineteen great grandchildren. Predeceased by his first wife, Anne, and his second wife, Audrey, his daughter, Roseanne (Steve), daughter-in-law, Sylvia and stepson, David.

Joe was born in Kenora, Ontario, the son of immigrant parents from Czechoslovakia and younger brother to Stan. The family had a strong work ethic giving Joe experience in home building, market farming and through his brother’s guidance, the golf industry. At the tender age of eight, Joe began as a caddie, and as a teenager, became Stan’s assistant at the Fort Frances Golf Club.

After relocating to Burlington, Ontario Joe delivered express for CN/CP for five years during which time he met and married his first wife Anne, and started their family. In 1955 he returned to his true calling, the golf trade, which led to a long career, first as Assistant Professional at the Burlington Golf Club, and ultimately Head Professional and Manager at the Mississippi Golf Club in Appleton, Ontario for thirty-three years.

In 1984, after thirty-four years of marriage, Joe became a widower. A few years later, he was fortunate to find a second love in Audrey. They married in 1989 and spent thirty-four years together before her passing.

Joe was a hard working and honest man with an iron clad integrity. He instilled strong values and mentored his children to carry on a proud legacy. He was known to have a tough exterior but as he aged, he softened into the beloved patriarch of our close-knit family. He was always ready to raise a glass or sing a song in celebration. Na zdravi!

Special thanks to the staff at the Carleton Place Terrace, in particular, Chip, of whom he was so fond.

A Celebration of Life will take place on November 15, 2025 from 2:00-5:00 pm at the Mississippi Golf Club. Words of remembrance will take place at 3:30 p.m.
