Lorraine "Laine" MacDonald Obituary

It is with profound sadness that the family of Lorraine (Laine) MacDonald announces her peaceful passing on August 4, 2025, with family by her side at the Almonte General Hospital (Rosamond Wing). Special thanks to Doctor Steven Walker and the amazing care team at Carleton Place and Almonte Hospitals.

She will be forever missed by the love of her life and devoted husband of 53 years, Ronnie. Proud and loving mother of Rodney of Mississauga and Kevin (Youme) of Annapolis, MD.

Laine’s pride and joy was spending time with her three grandchildren Kennedy, Anderson and Jack with whom she would babysit at a moment’s notice and spend countless hours on daily video calls. Cherished by her sister Barbara MacDonald. Predeceased by her parents Arthur and Bessie Fee. Loved sister-in-Law to Joy Drynan (Keith) of Carleton Place, Shirley Dolan of Almonte, Glenn (Doreen) of Toronto and Jean LeClaire (Dennis) of Clayton. Predeceased by many other brothers and sisters-in-law with whom she shared the MacDonald name.

Lorraine enjoyed early careers at Rolark, Digital and Leigh Instruments. As her children came along, she stayed home to be with her kids and added a few extras becoming a babysitter to many while baking too numerous birthday/novelty cakes to count. She then became “the boss” of MacDonald Sports and Screen Printing in 1987. If you were ever in need of sports equipment, trophies or screen printing, Ronnie was always quick to say, “wait until Laine gets in”. Be it the store or the arena skate sharpening booth, she always enjoyed talking to young and old alike. In “retirement” she transitioned to the flower department at Mitchell’s Independent Grocery Store, which became her passion.

Family and friends may pay respects at Barker Funeral Home, 19 McArthur Ave, Carleton Place, on Friday Sept 5th, 2025 from 10am to 1pm. Funeral service to follow in the chapel at 1pm. Reception to follow at the Carleton Place Legion from 2pm to 6pm. Private Family Burial at Guthrie United Cemetery in Clayton at a later date.

For those who wish, a donation to the Carleton Place & District Memorial Hospital Foundation, Almonte Hospital-Fairview Manor Foundation or the Captain A. Roy Brown Legion Branch 192 would be appreciated by the family.
