It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Marcel Labonté at the Carleton Place Hospital on Sunday, July 13, 2025.
Marcel was predeceased by his parents René and Fidélia (nee Larabie) Labonté, his sisters Yolande (Bert), Carmen and Jeannine and his brothers Guy and Pierre.
Marcel leaves behind his loving wife of 59 years Norma and his adoring daughter Cheryl (Mark). He also leaves behind his in-laws Roger, Gary, Maureen, Helen, Joyce, Carl (Jackie), Sandy (Mike), Carolyn (Ron), Audrey (Jeff), Dale (Shelley) , as well as many nieces and nephews. Marcel’s truest pride and joy though were his grandchildren Megan (Riley), Taylor (Noah) and Brandon (Regan). Marcel was born and raised in Ottawa. After he retired, he and Norma moved out of the city and eventually made their way to Carleton Place to be close to his daughter and grandchildren.
In the last 2 years, Marcel lived steps away from his daughter when he and Norma built a home on Cheryl and Mark’s property. Marcel enjoyed camping, fishing, dancing, travelling and reading a good John Grisham novel. He was often the funny one in the room and always enjoyed a good laugh. He was generous, kind hearted and easy to talk to. He was a man of his word and gladly jumped in to help his family and friends. Never needing to be asked to help, Marcel simply stepped in and did what had to be done. Marcel’s strong faith and belief in God, guided him throughout his lifetime. But above all, Marcel was a true family man. There is nothing he wouldn’t do for his family. He loved watching his grand daughters play sports and when his health permitted him, he could be found in arenas and soccer fields, rarely missing a game. He was their biggest cheerleader. He enjoyed family dinners and sitting out on the deck chatting with them. He was proud of his family, and they never questioned his love and commitment to them.
The family wishes to thank the recent caring staff of the Smiths Falls, Carleton Place and Perth hospitals.
Funeral service will be held at Barker Funeral Home, 19 McArthur Ave, Carleton Place, Ontario on Saturday July 19, 2025, at 11:00 AM with a reception to follow. In keeping with Marcel’s wishes, his final resting place will be at the Notre Dame Cemetery in Ottawa.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Cancer Society and the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Ottawa would be greatly appreciated.
