It is with heavy hearts that we grieve the peaceful passing of our beloved husband and father, Mark John Melville on Thursday, June 18, 2026.

Mark was born and raised in Newmarket, Ontario where he grew up alongside two brothers. Mark loved sports, camping, and card games. He was an excellent student, loved to learn and share his knowledge with others. Mark attended the University of Waterloo where he achieved a Bachelor of Mathematics degree and went on to Nipissing University to complete his Bachelor of Education.

A keen educator and witty commentator, Mark shared his insights and humour with the students and staff of Notre Dame Catholic High School where he taught for over 25 years. He taught math and computer science, coached basketball and football, and served as his school's union representative. His work ethic went beyond the classroom, building computer software for local winemakers, and maintaining multiple rental homes.

Mark was genuine, caring, and full of life. His faith was an important part of who he was and shaped the values by which he lived. Those who knew him witnessed his quiet strength, resilience, and steady presence through every season of life.

Perhaps Mark’s greatest legacy was his love for children, friends, and family. He was never happier (and sillier) than with little ones. His hospitality extended far beyond welcoming large gatherings into his home (which he and Karen did often and effortlessly); he possessed a rare and palpable hospitality of the heart.  A hopeful but frustrated NY Giants fan, Mark and Karen spent many hours together watching NFL football. Mark enjoyed green tea, brewing his own IPAs, and backgammon.

A devoted husband of 31 years to Karen (née McDonald); loving father to five children, Connor (Camille), Dylan (Patricia), Cameron, Shannon and Myles; and this past year Mark assumed the great honour of becoming grandpa extraordinaire to granddaughter, Charlotte Melville-Vaillant. Mark is also survived by his father and mother, John and Geraldine Melville; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Stuart and Gladys McDonald; brothers, Peter (Kerry), Dan (Amanda); brothers-in law, Clancy (Lisa), Kevin (Jenna), Ryan; sister-in-law, Marjorie (Ryan); nieces and nephews, Kate, Ben, Nate, Vanessa, Sarah, Lauren, Bella, Clancy, Rosa, Luke, Lily, Joshua, Ada, Alice, and Ruby; many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.

Public Visitations will take place at Alan R. Barker Funeral Home (19 McArthur Ave, Carleton Place) on Tuesday, June 23, from 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. and Wednesday, June 24, from 2:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m.- 8:00 p.m.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Saint Mary’s Catholic Church (28 Hawthorne Ave, Carleton Place, ON K7C 3A9) on Thursday, June 25, 2026 at 10:00 a.m.

In his last days, Mark was supported by the incredible staff at Ruddy-Shenkman Hospice. Mark’s family is exceedingly grateful for the devoted and excellent care he received during his time there.
