It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Mary Helen MacLeod on May 8, 2025. Born on January 23, 1931, in Dalkeith, Glengarry County, Ontario, to her parents Christena Mary (nee MacIntosh) and William Roderick (Willie R.) MacLeod, Mary Helen was deeply connected to and proud of her Scottish heritage, a legacy rich in the Glengarry area. She was predeceased by her siblings Ellis MacLeod, Sandra Tubman, Donna Spearman, Lois Hartling, and Eileen Hamre.

Mary Helen dedicated her professional life to the field of education. She began her career teaching in one-room school houses in the Ottawa Valley, and then as a passionate special education teacher for the Peel District School Board in Mississauga. Her career also took her overseas, teaching at a Canadian Armed Forces School in Germany. When working there, she travelled extensively in Europe. A loving Aunt, Mary Helen cherished her family and will be deeply missed by her nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews in Canada, Texas, and Australia; and by her longtime companion and partner, William Simpson. Her wit, humour, fun-loving spirit, and tireless support of family will be remembered by all who knew her.

A funeral service will be held at Barker Funeral Home in Carleton Place on Friday, May 23 at 2:00 p.m. preceded by visitation beginning at 1:00 p.m. Immediately following the service there will be a ceremony at Munster Union Ceremony.

The family wishes to express sincere gratitude for the care and support Mary Helen received during her residence at 'Orchard View Gardens by the Mississippi' in Almonte.
