It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of our loving and devoted wife, mum, sister, grandma and great-grandma at the Almonte Hospital on Tuesday January 18th, 2022 in her 87th year.
Survived by her beloved husband of 65 years Russell Suitor and 6 Sons, Kevin (Trinda), Kim, Chris (Jo-Anne), Craig (Michele), Kent (Sherry), Kirk (Beth). Cherished grandma to Dale (Tina), Leigh Anna (Phil), Kelli (Jon), Travis (Heather), Katie, Megan, Quinton, Drew, Sara, Jamie, Johnny and special great-grandma to Joshua, Avery, Madison, Amelia and Scarlett.
Mary Lou was born in Sherbrooke Quebec on July 22, 1935 to the late Frank Tarte and Catherine (nee Raymond). She is survived by her brother Donald (Dorothy).
After receiving her teaching degree in 1954 from Macdonald College, Mary Lou and Russell married and moved to Ottawa where she found passion in raising her large family and her volunteer work with the VON, Rideau Lakes Seniors and Youville Centre. There was never a dull moment raising 6 boys all involved in sports and school. Upon retirement in 1991, they moved to Portland ON. to a beautiful home they built on the Rideau where they made many cherished friendships. She was a driving force in the mission to save St. Mary’s Anglican Church in Newboro, ON. where she and Russell spent many days attending services, baking, organizing events and keeping involved in their community.
Knowing Mary Lou meant you knew her passion for her family and friends. She loved to entertain and always found a way to make everyone feel welcome and cherished.
In honouring Mary Lou’s wishes, cremation has taken place and a celebration of her life will be planned for the spring.
In lieu of flowers, donations to St. Mary’s Anglican Church in Newboro, Ontario or the Heart and Stroke Foundation are appreciated.
