Michael Viner

Michael Viner, from Ottawa, Ontario, a musician, artist, and chef, passed away on February 18, 2026. Father of Simon Viner and his partner Elizabeth Vengay, and grandfather of Erik. Son of the late Carmen (née Tessier) and Gordon Viner, and dear brother of Suzan Viner-Warkentin and Louise Kraschewski.

Some time ago, Michael shared with his son Simon how he measured his life’s accomplishments: “I play music to entertain and bring joy. I create art to inspire thought and meaning and I cook to excite the taste buds and nourish the body.” Michael found peace and inspiration in the Gatineau Hills, where he loved to relax and paint.

A small gathering for family and friends will be held in early spring in place of a formal service.
