Moyra MacArthur Gagnon
(nee MacKay)
(January 8th , 1948 - November 1st , 2024)
Moyra peacefully passed at the Carleton Place Hospital with family on November 1st, 2024 after a long hard-fought battle with Cancer. Moyra was born on January 8th, 1948 in her family homestead on School Street in the village of Port Charlotte, Isle of Islay, Scotland. She was pre-deceased by her parents Duncan and Janet MacKay, and her brothers Gilbert and Duncan MacKay. She is survived by her sister Rachael Gardiner (nee MacKay), her husband Claude Gagnon, their sons Scott Gagnon (Laura Bielecki), Arthur Gagnon, and Andre Gagnon (Wellsley Hamilton), Scott and Laura’s children, Grace and Elliot, and Andre and Wellsley’s children, Elle and Dylan.
Moyra embraced Canada, then finally Carleton Place, as her home but never let the roots of her native land fade, as her Scottish accent was as strong as it was at the end, as it was when she first journeyed to Canada as a young woman. Moyra was a compassionate caregiver throughout her career. She enjoyed telling stories about Islay and made many trips back to Scotland throughout the years.
Thank you to Dr. Laskey and the medical staff who provided such care during her struggle and final days.
Wee Moy, Mac, Mommy, thank you for your love then and now. We loved you then, and love you now, and will love you forever.
Sail away, you will be with us everyday.
Family will have a private service for Moyra in Islay, Scotland.
Should you wish, please consider a donation to the Canadian Cancer Society or the charity of your choice in Moyra’s honour.
