Niel Poulsen

Dr. Niel Bowman Poulsen

Born Dec 20, 1935 

Son of Dr Ernest Ray Poulsen and Prudence Ririe Poulsen 

Niel passed peacefully on April 3rd 2023 at the Almonte General Hospital holding hands with his beloved wife of 44 years Elizabeth Ann Poulsen and daughter Rebecca. Niel was a respected scientist for A.E.C.L. in Chalk River for many years before turning to teaching in Chemistry, Math and Physics. Niel remained an active member of his church and contributed to local theatre and arts everywhere he lived. He was often tutoring local youth in math or walking about town enjoying the natural life and artists around him. He will be fondly remembered by his brother Dr Jim Poulsen and his sisters Rae, Lorna and Deidra as well as his children and their spouses; Travis (Macdonald), Christian, Sarah, Joseph, Timothy and Rebecca (Poulsen), Sherry-Lynn (Vasquez) and his grand children Lillee, Charlie, Parker, Maisie and Trip as well as the many others who counted him as family. 

Donations may be made to the Almonte General Hospital, Hillside Reformed Presbyterian Church or the Canadian Cancer Society.

A memorial service to honour Niel will be held at Hillside Reformed Presbyterian Church, Almonte on Saturday, May 27, 2023 at 1 p.m. Reception to follow in the church hall.

We wish to thank the nursing staff and doctors at Almonte General Hospital and the leadership team of Hillside RPC who were so attentive and kind to Niel and to our family during his final days.
