Pat McCurdy Obituary

Patricia (Pat) Edna McCurdy (Nee Watts) passed quietly 3 Jan 2025, just barely into her 91st year. Born in Nottingham, England, between the War to End all Wars and the next one, Mom was old enough to remember the battle of Britain and all that that entailed. Those memories came back with every thunderstorm, but she never spoke of them. In 1957, mom married a Canadian serviceman and soon left England behind for the depths of a Manitoba winter. That said, she remained very close with her family in England, especially her sister Barb, who still lives there. Later in life, Skype and my sister Sandy, were the God-send that allowed mom and Aunt Barb to maintain their link to the past and gave mom peace at the end.
Mom was an RAF veteran, a wife of more than 50 years (before Dad passed in 2008), a mother of four, a foster mother to Annie and Wayne and a baby whose name I can’t recall (my failing not hers), a loving parent to many critters too numerous to mention but the last of whom was Raffie, who comforted her after Dad passed. She…Dad always hated when I used “she” to describe anyone… So, with due respect to my father, Mom was grandmother of 13 and a Great- Grandmother (at last count) of 14. Mom was an accomplished seamstress, quilter and Handy-woman. Mom could sew, build, paint, repair or recycle just about anything. Cooking was not her strong point – that was dad’s job.
Pre-deceased by her brothers John and Joe, her sisters Irene and Margaret, her husband Bob and daughter Claire, mom has plenty of company to welcome her into the afterlife. Survived by her sisters, Barb, Julie and Pam, children Sandy, Gayna and Larry, and buckets of descendants. Those of us left behind look forward to seeing her again, restored to her youthful vigour.

A life well lived.

A visitation and reception to celebrate Pat's life will be held at Barker Funeral Home, 19 McArthur Avenue, Carleton Place, ON on Tuesday, January 14th from 1 - 3 p.m.
