Patrick Doyle Obituary

Doyle, Patrick Michael

Doyle, Patrick Michael, in his eightieth year, of Carleton Place, ON, died at the Ottawa Civic Hospital of Myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS). Predeceased by his parents, John “Jack” Doyle &  Beverly Buck both of Laval West, QC and Christ Church,  Barbados. Also predeceased by his wife of 32 years, Linda Morey of Carleton Place, ON. Survived by his son, Liam Doyle of Mississauga, ON (fiancee Karina Flores of Marilao Bulacan Philippines), his sister Dawna Monahan of Penticton BC, niece Kimberly of Calgary, AB. Nephews; Michael & Kelly of Penticton, BC, and Kenny Morey of Abbotsford, BC. Kenny lived with Patrick and Linda on the family farm when he was young and was always thought of as more a son than a nephew. He is also survived by three adoptive children; Rosita of Ottawa, ON, who liked when her father referred to her as Rosie-o-Posio and she delighted in calling him Popeye. Blair of Ottawa, ON,  who came into his father’s  life and his heart as a frightened little five year old. And Corrigan, a troubled young soul who never seemed to find peace. Rosita, Blair and Corrigan were adopted by Patrick and his wife at the time Justine Kruz.

Patrick was born July 26th, 1943 in Westmount, QC. He graduated from Sir George Williams University, Montreal as President of the class of 1970. And further attended graduate studies at the University of Toronto, University of Ottawa, St. Paul University, and St. Francis Xavier University.

He had a diverse and varied career in journalism (The Gazette [Montreal], The Toronto Star, CBC Radio, CBC Television). He also served in government as an executive in the federal public service, in various capacities. Up until the time of his death, he worked as a psychotherapist at Sandy Hill Community Health Center. Over the years he took great pride in serving his community. Often serving on advisory and governing boards, including; Concordia University School of Community and Public Affairs, St. Paul University, Children's Aid Society, etc. He continued to serve up until the time of his death on the board of directors of the Clinical Hypnosis Society for Canada (Ontario Division).

But his greatest pride and satisfaction was in front line volunteer work in settings as varied as; community health organizations, prisons, and educational institutions.

Patrick was cheerful and saw the irony in much of human existence, and when faced with adversity he joked about having a personal motto -- "Humour in the Face of Adversity."

In lieu of flowers, Patrick’s final request was to have you take someone you care about to dinner, and tell them you love them. A remembrance of life will be held in his honour at a date to be determined.
