With great sadness, we announce the loss of our beloved mother, Peggy Janet Mackey (nee Hill) on Sunday, June 30, 2024 in her 98th year.
She was a devoted wife to Alan (d. March 2015), her best friend and childhood sweetheart, whom she married on June 24, 1950.
She was a loving mother to Susan (Brad), Eric (Lee Anne), Stephen (Marlene) and Peter (Jo Ann), as well as a beloved Grandma to Sarah, Joseph (d. 2010), Adam, Erin, Thomas, Alison, Katie, Lindsay, Kendra, Emma, Ben and Hannah and Great-Grandma to 12 more.
A graduate of McGill University, she was a teacher in both Montreal and Ottawa, finishing her teaching career at Alta Vista Public School in Ottawa as a teacher for enrichment students. Besides her great love for our father, she loved animals of all kinds (including a series of beloved dogs), the great outdoors and camping, and crossword puzzles. She and our father were long time members of St. James Anglican Church in Carleton Place, ON and together they had a ministry to the residents at Fairview Manor Retirement Home in Almonte for many years.
We thank God that in His kindness, He took her gently and quickly from us in His perfect timing.
Funeral service will take place at St. James Anglican Church, 224 Edmund Street, Carleton Place, ON on Tuesday the 23rd of July, starting at 1:00 pm with reception and inurnment following the service. Donations to the Lanark Animal Welfare Society will be gratefully acknowledged.
Arrangements in the care of Alan R. Barker Funeral Home, 19 McArthur Avenue, Carleton Place. Special thanks to the caring staff and residents at The Courtyards on Eagleson.
Soli Deo Gloria
