Richard "Dick" D'Avignon Obituary

Richard (Dick) D'Avignon

It is with a heavy heart that we share the passing of Richard (Dick) D'Avignon, 88 years old, of Ottawa, on April 22nd, after a lengthy battle with cancer.

Dick was truly dedicated to the love of his life, Hazel (nee Rocque), whom he fell in love with and married 67 years ago. Together, they built a life filled with love, laughter, and shared adventures, creating countless cherished memories. He was a devoted father to Brian (Debbie Dupont) and Darlene (Dale Visneskie) and a very proud grandfather to Craig (Stephanie Keys Denis) and Ragan. He was a cherished brother of Robert (Denise - deceased) and Michael (Sue), his brothers-in-law, Richard Rocque (Gail - deceased), Lloyd (deceased), Donald Rocque (Marian), sisters-in-law, Helen Bissonnette (Dick - deceased), Doreen Rocque (Dave), many nieces and nephews, grand-nieces, grand-nephews and cherished neighbours.

Predeceased by his parents, Albert and Marie (Desjardins) D'Avignon and his parents-in-law, Percy and Jeannette (Leblanc) Rocque.

Dick enjoyed retirement for more than 25 years and spent that time skiing, boating, fishing, kayaking, anything with water, travelling, but mostly enjoying his passion for golf!

He was the best human we have ever known — kind, patient, strong, and endlessly loving.

The way he showed up for his family, his friends, and even strangers is something we will carry with us for the rest of our lives. He taught us more by example than words ever could.

We will miss his voice, his wisdom, his quiet strength, his humour and wit and the way he made everything feel okay just by being there.

Rest peacefully, Dick, Dad and Poppy. We love you always. ❤️

A celebration of Dick's life will be held at Barker Funeral Home (19 McArthur Ave., Carleton Place) on Tuesday, April 28th, from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm. A private burial will be held at a later date.

Our family is profoundly grateful to Dr. Lindsay Hamilton and the exceptional team at Waterside Retirement Community; your kindness didn't just meet our needs it sustained our spirits. We truly couldn't have navigated this journey without your 'above and beyond' care.
