ROBERT DENNIS
Peacefully, in his 100th year, on April 29, at Forest Hill Nursing Home.
Originally from Newmarket, Ontario, Robert lived most of his life in Ottawa. He was the beloved husband of the love of his life, Winnifred (née MacDonald). He was predeceased by his first wife, Shirley (Jardine).
Robert is survived by his loving family: sons Michael (Syracuse), Patrick (Dauna) of Kanata, and Edward (Candace) of Stouffville; daughter Laura of Kelowna; and son John Dennis of Brockville. He is also survived by his stepdaughters Leslie (late Ed Ward) of Kemptville and Mary Johnson of Brockville. He will be fondly remembered by his grandchildren: Scott Dennis (daughter Chloe); Jeffrey Dennis (Kelly) and their daughters Isla and Eloise; Christopher Mullally (Olivia) and their daughters Isabelle and Willa of Fernie, B.C.; and Kira Mullally of the world. He is also survived by his step-grandchildren: Ross McGrath (son Malacki) of Kemptville; Dylan Montgomery (Harleigh) and their children Isaac, Nolan, and Adalynn of Carleton Place; and Michael and Liam Fisher of Smiths Falls. Robert will be especially missed by his granddaughter Amanda Delargy (Ryan) and their children Harper, Renn, and Sutter of Arnprior. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Charles and Gertrude (née Dicker), as well as four brothers and five sisters.
Robert proudly served in WWII. Following his retirement as a Chief Warrant Officer, he worked as a topographical surveyor (cartographer) with the Department of National Defence and Energy, Mines and Resources, travelling throughout Canada.
He was an avid sports fan and a dedicated community volunteer, contributing many hours to the Nepean Figure Skating Club, Little Cedar Lake Association, seniors curling, and square dancing with the Mississippi Squares. He also coached minor hockey, Little League baseball, and was involved with the Boy Scouts.
Robert will be deeply missed by his large family and many friends.
Memorial visitation will be held at the Barker Funeral Home, 19 McArthur Avenue, Carleton Place on Tuesday, May 5, 2026 from 1 to 4 p.m.
