Robert “Rob” Anderson Obituary

Robert “Rob” Anderson

Robert “Rob” Anderson, at the age of 55 from Carleton Place, ON passed away peacefully at the Almonte Hospital after a long illness.

Born on August 21, 1970 in the town of Smiths Falls, ON, Rob was adopted 6 weeks later by Jackie and Bert Anderson.

He is survived by his wife, Melanie Anderson and mother, Jackie Anderson. His father Bert passed away in 2021. Rob missed him deeply.

Rob worked in real estate for the better part of 25 years. He started in the business with Jackie and was an excellent agent. He loved to see how happy he made his first- time buyers. He often said it was the reason he loved his work.

Rob loved sports. He knew every player and every team whether it was baseball; hockey or football and practically every statistic and rule there was to know. He played hockey in his early days for the Valley Selects and even a few games later on with the Carleton Place Kings. Later, when he was married, both he and Melanie welcomed billets from the new Junior A Team in Carleton Place. It was two years of comradery and fun. The house was also full of players coming over to hang with “Robbo and Mel”

For many years, Rob was an avid golfer and started out as a right-handed player only to learn later from a Pro that he was probably a leftie. He never looked back. He enjoyed playing golf with his buddies and took pride in his appearance on the links. Often wearing bright colors and had an eclectic collection of golf shoes. The highlight of his golf experiences came when he played the courses on a trip to Maui to celebrate his mom’s 70th.

Otty Lake near Perth held a special place in Rob’s heart. He had so many fond memories of being up there as a kid and fishing with his dad and being around family. Rob and Melanie chose it as their place to be married in 2003. The wedding was epic and for years after that on their wedding anniversary long weekends, they would invite the usual suspects up to celebrate.

Rob was a man with a huge heart who would help anyone out. He enjoyed meeting up with his friends at local establishments to catch up on the gossip and talk everything from current affairs to sports and beyond. He cared deeply about animals and loved his dogs. During Covid lock-down he befriended a little red squirrel who came by everyday to grab peanuts from his hand.

Rob had health challenges before he was admitted to hospital on Oct 31st. Unfortunately he was never able to return home.

We want to personally thank all of the health care givers; compassionate nurses and doctors who treated Rob and the support we got from North Lanark Hospice.

To honour and remember a man who made an impression on all those who knew him or had a chance to work with him, or even if you only knew him through Jackie or Melanie, we invite you to a Celebration of Life at the Barker Funeral Home, 19 McArthur Avenue,  Carleton Place on Feb 1st 2026 between 1-4pm, with words of rememberance  at 2 pm, which will be livestreamed on YouTube (search YouTube for Barkerfh Rob Anderson) .

In lieu of flowers, donations would be appreciated to the Rosamond Wing of the Almonte Hospital; Carleton Place Hospital or the Neurosurgery wing of the Ottawa Civic Hospital.
