Russell Suitor Obituary

Suitor, Russell Wayne

It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of our loving husband, dad, brother, grandpa and great-grandpa at the Ottawa Heart Institute on Thursday, January 4th, 2024, in his 90th year.

Survived by his 6 Sons, Kevin (Trinda), Kim, Chris (Jo-Anne), Craig (Michele), Kent (Sherry), Kirk (Beth). Cherished grandpa to Dale (Tina), Leigh Anna (Phil), Kelli (Jon), Travis (Heather), Katie, Megan, Quinton, Drew, Sara, Jamie, Johnny and special great-grandpa to Joshua, Avery, Madison, Amelia, Scarlett, and Violet.

Russell was born in Huntingville Quebec on March 1st, 1934 to the late Roy Suitor and Albertha (nee Brown). He is survived by his brother Leslie (Joey). Predeceased by his loving wife Mary Lou and by brothers Robert (Beverly) and Allan (Evelyn).

Russell was born and raised on the Suitor Farm in Huntingville, Qc. He attended MacDonald College where he met the love of his life, Mary Lou. They were married in 1956 spending 65 wonderful years together. They moved to Ottawa where he began a prestigious 35-year career as a Research Scientist with Agriculture Canada at the Experimental Farm. As the proud father of 6 boys, Russell spent many years in hockey rinks, lacrosse courts and camping with friends every weekend.  Upon retirement in 1991, they moved to Portland ON. to a beautiful home they built on Big Rideau Lake where they made many cherished friendships. Many weekends and summer holidays were spent entertaining grand children with boat rides, picnics, tractor rides and swimming in the Lake. Russell and Mary Lou were a driving force in the mission to save St. Mary’s Anglican Church in Newboro, On. where they spent many days attending services, baking, organizing events and keeping involved in their community.

His passion for family, friends, and his community are just a few of the memories we will cherish forever.

In honouring Russell’s wishes, cremation has already taken place and a celebration of life will be held on January 20th, 2024 at 1pm. St Mary’s Anglican Church, 15 Brock St. Newboro, On. K0G1P0. Interment to follow at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations to St. Mary’s Anglican Church in Newboro, Ontario or the Heart and Stroke Foundation are appreciated.

Arrangements entrusted to the Alan R. Barker Funeral Home, Carleton Place.
