Samuel Kinghan Reid

It is with deep sadness we announce the passing of Samuel, peacefully at home with his family by his side.

Sam was born in Belfast, N. Ireland the youngest of nine children. Married in 1976 and shortly after moved to Canada. He was an active member and President of the Carleton Place Civitan Club for a number of years. Sam loved working with and helping people in the community. He was the person to call upon if you had a project that needed doing. He retired from the Ottawa-Carleton District School board after 37 years and during the last ten years he has enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, travelling and visiting family in N. Ireland.

A real gentleman, lover of football (soccer), a storyteller, comedian and friend. He will be fondly remembered for his sense of humour, generous nature and his love of life.

He is survived by his loving wife Joan of 47 years, daughters Amanda (Jeff) and Angela (David), cherished grandchildren Keara, William, Daniel, Kadance, Ava and Cameron, to whom he was lovingly known as Grumpa, his doting sister Lily, Uncle Eddie and Aunt Joyce Moore and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews who he loved dearly.

Predeceased by his parents Joseph and Margaret Reid, his sisters Margaret Caldwell, Florence (Mable) Swaffield, Philomena Murray (Phyllis), his brothers Robert (Bobby), Joseph (Joe), John and Alexander (Alec). 

We would like to extend our appreciation to everyone who cared for and supported Sam and Joan during his illness. Especially Dr. Esperanzate, Dr. Kankesan and Dr. Kucharczyk.

Family and friends may visit at the Alan R Barker Funeral Home, 19 McArthur Avenue, Carleton Place on Friday, January 12, 2024 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 pm. Funeral service will be held on Saturday, January 13, 2024 at 1 pm in the funeral home chapel with a reception to follow.
