Shirley Germaine McNulty (née Godin)
Passed peacefully at home with her family by her side, on Friday, June 20, 2025, at the age of 91. Predeceased by her adoring husband Jim McNulty and her son Ron. Shirley is survived by her children, Paul (Lyne), Kerry Ann (Kevin), Tim (Tara), and daughter-in-law Mandy (Marie). Cherished grandmother of Jane, Michael, Benjamin, Sean, Patrick, Emily, Brienna, Erin, Kesia, Zachary, and Gabrielle. Great-grandmother to William, Jameson, Grayson, Lincoln, Karsyn, Hudson-Royce, and Naomi. She will be missed by her sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, and her dearest friend Connie. Thanks to her neighbours and support team for their kind and compassionate care over many years.
Shirley was born and raised in Norwood, Ontario. Nicknamed ‘Honey’, she was the youngest of seven children born to Regina and Hillaire Godin. She had a close and special relationship with her sister, Pauline. Shirley was a primary school teacher for 20 years before working with the Canada Revenue Agency until her retirement. Shirley also volunteered at The Exchange, a thrift store in Carleton Place, for several years.
Shirley was an avid reader and an inquisitive person who passed on her love of books and learning to her children. Not as well known, Shirley had a lovely singing voice and remembered the lyrics of many old songs. Her children fondly remember the tradition of sing-along sessions during car trips. Shirley loved cats and always had at least one throughout her lifetime. Her latest cat, Harlee, was her constant companion.
A graveside service will be held at St. Mary's Cemetery, Carleton Place, Ontario on Friday September 12, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. Following the service guests are invited to the Carleton Place Curling Club (120 Patterson Cres, Carleton Place) for a time of remembrance and fellowship beginning at 12:00 p.m.
