Obituary

Brandino, Susan

With heavy hearts, the Brandino family announces the passing of Susan Brandino (nee Nash) on March 3, 2023 at the age of 81. Best friend and wife to Luigi Brandino (d. July 2022) of Carleton Place. Proud mom to Melissa McDiarmid (Keith) of Carleton Place, Alexa Ives (Andy) of Manotick and Ben (Jacquie) of Carleton Place. Cherished ‘Grandy’ to Jeremy, Sydney, Connor, Ethan, Pyper, Contessa and Sawyer and beloved great grandmother to Bentley. Susan will also be missed by her many cousins whom she treasured deeply.

Susan was the only child of John and Helen Nash of Toronto. She attended Bishop Strachan School (BSS) where she formed many long-lasting friendships. Susan went on to school in Lausanne, Switzerland and Rome, Italy. Following her sojourn in Europe, Susan returned to Toronto to work at the Royal Ontario Museum. Later, while on holiday in Bermuda Susan met Luigi and they wed there in 1966. In 1969 they settled back in Canada, moving to Port Hope to raise their family. Luigi’s work brought them to the Ottawa area in 1979 they made their home in Carleton Place where she quickly became involved in many volunteer organizations. Susan worked at the Centennial Medical Center and the West Lake Medical Center before retiring.

After a short and brave journey with pancreatic cancer, Susan passed away surrounded by family, peacefully and with dignity. We would like to extend our gratitude to Dr. Maria Bastin-Millar whose patience and bedside manner were not only professional but comforting. To the staff at the Carleton Place Terrace, in particular Sharon Patterson, we thank you for your kindness and caring. Much gratitude as well to Susan’s dear friend Carolyn Shail.

The family invites family and friends to a Celebration of Life to be held at the Alan R. Barker Funeral Home, 19 McArthur Avenue, Carleton Place on Thursday, March 9, 2023 at 2 p.m.
