Tony Welk Obituary

Anthony “Tony” Welk

February 28th, 1968 - May 29th, 2025

Our beloved Tony entered God’s Kingdom on May 29, 2025, surrounded by his loving family after a long and brave battle with Leukemia.

Beloved husband to Tammy for 33 years however a soulmate for much longer. Devoted and loving father to his children Tori (Jeremy), Lexi (Nic), and Krischan (Heather), his dog Willow, his step-grandson Bentley, and his first granddaughter on the way. He is predeceased by his much-missed father Carl, and survived by his loving mother Carole, aunt Cheryl, sister Tammy (Stephen) and brother-in-law Todd (Tanya). He was Uncle Tony to Lindsey (Alex), Corey, Olivia, Lucas, Nathaniel, and Tye. Also survived by his in-laws Doug and Nedda.

He was a great friend to many and a great listener to those who needed it. He loved his family and not a day went by where he was not watching over them and ensuring they were safe and loved. He took pride in his hometown of Almonte, playing basketball for the Almonte Orangemen, and running for the ADHS Track & Field Team. Later in life Tony also enjoyed playing baseball, flag football, lob ball, hockey and pickleball. He loved being at the cabin with family and enjoying the tranquility of being outdoors. He treasured watching and coaching his family and their friends in sports and making people laugh with his grand sense of humour and witty remarks.

Tony was a loyal servant to God first and foremost. He loved his Hillside Reformed Presbyterian Church where he was a devoted Deacon and faithful follower. Now that Tony has passed into the arms of the Lord, we should remind ourselves that while this is the end of Tony’s physical life on Earth, it’s the beginning of an eternal and beautiful journey for him. We take comfort knowing that Tony is reunited and rejoicing with his Dad in Glory.

Our family would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to the many doctors, nurses and other health care workers at the Ottawa General Hospital who were involved in Tony’s care. There are too many to mention individually, but they were so genuine and loving, and treated Tony with the care, dignity and respect he deserved. Their kindness and compassion meant the world to both Tony and his family and will never be forgotten.

In lieu of flowers, if you are able to do so, please consider donating to the Hillside Reformed Presbyterian Church Benevolence Fund (e-transfer ‘Benevolence’ to hillsidesportscamp@outlook.com). The church will be donating funds on Tony’s behalf to enhance the Ottawa General Hospital’s Intensive Care Unit experience for patients and their families and the Stem Cell Patient Program. If you wish to receive a tax receipt, please email hillsiderpc.treasurer@gmail.com with details.

A Celebration of Tony’s Life will be held on Friday, June 6, 2025, from 2:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m. at the Civitan Community Hall located at 500 Almonte Street in Almonte. Words of Remembrance will take place at 3:00 p.m.
