William Gordon Standing (Gord)
June 23, 1921 - August 3, 2024
William Gordon Standing, age 103, passed away after a long and well lived life peacefully at Country Haven in Almonte on August 3, 2024. Predeceased by his beloved wife Helen Standing. Amazing dad of Carol Anne (deceased), Tom (Gail), Brian (Marianne) and Shirley (Scott) Trowbridge. Cherished Grandpa of Andrea (Jason), Matt (Kristen), Nicky (Paul) and Shane (Vanessa). Great Grandpa of Hannah, Ryan, Jackson, Riley, Hallie, Thomas, Grayson and Camden. Brother of late Kenneth Standing and surviving brother Lloyd (Anna).
Gord was a WWII veteran flying 30 missions in a Halifax Bomber as a bombardier and was known for his love of aviation. Following a 25-year career in the Royal Canadian Air Force, he retired to a civilian life in Ottawa and then Carleton Place.
Friends may visit the family at the Alan R. Barker Funeral Home, 19 McArthur Ave, Carleton Place on Thursday, August 15, 2024 from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. and Friday, August 16, 2024 from 9:00 a.m. until time of funeral service in the chapel at 11:00 a.m. Interment will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Capt. A. Roy Brown, Branch 192 – The Royal Canadian Legion, Carleton Place would be appreciated by the family.
