Obituary

        William "Liam" McGee

William ‘Liam’ Harold McGee, age 51, passed away peacefully, with incredible courage and dignity, on Friday August 18th 2023, surrounded by family. Liam was born in Ottawa Ontario to parents Mary Carmen Tapp and William Harold McGee (passed 2009). Liam grew up in the neighbourhood of Westboro with his sisters, Mary (Mark Doxtater) and Lana (Jesse Johanis). He spent countless hours at Dovercourt Park, playing outside and riding bikes with friends. He played football for the Bell Warriors as a teenager and played rugby while attending Ottawa Technical High School, graduating in 1989. He was a lifelong fan of the Montreal Canadiens and supported all of Ottawa’s CFL teams over the years.

His heart was stolen when he became a devoted and proud father to Kieran (now loving partner to Ellee Westlake) in 1993 and Cailey (now loving partner to Josh Botelho) in 1996. They followed in their dads love of the Canadiens and football, where they all either played or volunteered with the Kanata Knights football team for several years. Together they went undefeated and won the city championships for 3 consecutive years.

He met the love of his life Tina Ferrone in 2007 and married in 2010. Together they loved, laughed and faced everything side by side with respect and commitment. He became a father for a third time to Marques in 2011 and eventually became a hockey dad, going to school assemblies to watch his youngest son. Liam was ecstatic to become a Pappy to Cailey’s twin daughters Beatriz and Roisin in 2021. He was able to see them take their first steps and hear them call him Pappy.

He was a loyal friend to Matt, Jeff, Scott and Joe, who spent weekends away together watching NFL games, going for dinners and laughing. Liam loved giving to others, always wanting to help when he could. He brought children from CHEO to watch Ottawa Senators games and worked to support other families dealing with cancer through a foundation he and Tina felt passionately about.

He was dedicated to his wife and children, spending time with them was more precious to him than anything else. He loved being with his entire family and was an amazing uncle to Kyle, Tara, Erika, Amber and Lauryn who all had a fun and loving connection to him. He had a strong bond with his mom and sisters and was a true friend to brothers in law Mark and Jesse. He will rest peacefully next to his father.

Liam was was always true to himself, never complaining or wavering in who he was, regardless of what challenges he faced. His humility, loving spirit and laugh will be missed immeasurably.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date that all are welcome to attend and share their memories of Liam.

His family would like to thank the amazing staff at the Ottawa Hospital General Campus and Dr. Arleigh Robertson-McCurdy.

In lieu of flowers, please consider being a blood or plasma donor, or donate to Multiple Myeloma Research through the Canadian Cancer Society.
